Yongzheng Emperor: Autocracy and Fiscal Reform
Yongzheng Emperor
Known as the 5th emperor of the Qing dynasty, he succeeded the Kangxi Emperor and reigned from 1722 to 1735. He was the third Qing emperor to rule over China proper. He focused his efforts on cracking down on bureaucratic corruption and reforming fiscal and administrative systems, playing a central role in establishing the Grand Council, a military and administrative body under the direct control of the emperor. On the other hand, he exercised strict control over the imperial family and officials, earning a reputation as an autocratic ruler. After his death, his fourth son, the Qianlong Emperor, ascended the throne.
