Qing Regent and Architect of the Ming Conquest
Dorgon
A Manchu prince, military leader, and statesman in the early Later Jin and Qing dynasties. As the 14th son of Nurhaci, the founder of Later Jin, he led the governance of the Qing state as regent to the Shunzhi Emperor following the death of Hong Taiji. He commanded the Qing army at the Battle of Shanhai Pass in 1644, playing a crucial role in the entry into Beijing following the fall of the Ming dynasty and the expansion of Qing rule over China. He also promoted the policy forcing Han Chinese men to adopt the queue. After his death, he was granted a status equivalent to an emperor, but was subsequently stripped of his titles by the Shunzhi Emperor and his remains were desecrated. His honor was later restored by the Qianlong Emperor in 1778.
