Hong Beom-do's Anti-Japanese Armed Struggle
Hong Beom-do
Hong Beom-do was a legendary commander of the Korean independence movement who spearheaded armed resistance against Japanese colonial rule. Rising to prominence through righteous army activities, he led the Korean Independence Army in cross-border operations during the 1920s. His military genius culminated in landmark victories at the Battles of Fengwudong and Qingshanli, dealing severe blows to pursuing Japanese forces. Following turmoil in the Russian Far East, he remained in Soviet territory until he was forcibly relocated to Kyzylorda, Kazakhstan, under Stalin's 1937 deportation policy. Spending his final years managing a local theater, Hong passed away in 1943 and remains revered across Korea as a national hero.
