Mehmed IV
Mehmed IV
The 19th sultan of the Ottoman Empire. In 1648, following the deposition of his father Ibrahim, he ascended the throne at age 6 and ruled until 1687. He was also known as "Mehmed the Hunter" for his love of hunting. Under the political stewardship of the Köprülü grand viziers, the empire regained its military momentum and acquired territories such as Crete, though it faced major setbacks starting with the failed Siege of Vienna in 1683. After his deposition, he lived in Edirne, where he passed away.
