Hayreddin Pasha: Grand Admiral and Defender of Ottoman Seas

Hayreddin Pasha

An Ottoman admiral and privateer commander active in the Mediterranean. Known in Europe as "Barbarossa," meaning "Redbeard." Alongside his elder brother Aruj Reis, he expanded his sphere of influence in North Africa and was later appointed Grand Admiral of the Ottoman Navy under Suleiman the Magnificent. His victory over the Holy League fleet at the Battle of Preveza in 1538 contributed significantly to strengthening Ottoman dominance in the Mediterranean during the mid-16th century.
