Alexander Dubček: Leader of Prague Spring

Alexander Dubček: Leader of Prague Spring

Alexander Dubček

Alexander Dubček assumed the office of First Secretary of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia in 1968 and led the major reform movement known as the "Prague Spring" under the banner of "socialism with a human face". Although he radically promoted the abolition of censorship and the democratization of politics, it provoked strong vigilance from the Soviet Union, leading to his downfall through the Warsaw Pact military invasion in August of the same year. He later recovered his honor through the Velvet Revolution and served as Chairman of the Federal Assembly.
