Thomas Cranmer: Architect of Anglican Theology
Thomas Cranmer
An English theologian and clergyman, and one of the principal leaders of the English Reformation. He became Archbishop of Canterbury in 1533 and was active across the reigns of Henry VIII, Edward VI, and Mary I. He was involved in the annulment of Henry VIII's marriage to Catherine of Aragon and supported royal supremacy over the Church. During the reign of Edward VI, he promoted liturgical reform in English and led the creation of the first two editions of the Book of Common Prayer. During the reign of Mary I, he was tried for heresy and treason, and was burned at the stake in Oxford in 1556.
