Copernicus and the Heliocentric Revolution
Nicolaus Copernicus
Astronomer, mathematician, clergyman, jurist, and economist of the Renaissance period. Known for systematizing the heliocentric theory (heliocentrism), which posits that the Earth is not the center of the universe and that planets, including the Earth, revolve around the Sun. He summarized his theory in his main work, "On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres (De revolutionibus orbium coelestium)," which significantly influenced the subsequent Scientific Revolution led by Kepler, Galileo, Newton, and others. Furthermore, as a canon of the Warmia Cathedral Chapter, he was involved in administration, diplomacy, and military defense, and also conducted research on monetary systems.
