Ferdinand I, Holy Roman Emperor
Ferdinand von Habsburg
Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand I. From the House of Habsburg, he became Archduke of Austria in 1521, King of Bohemia and Hungary in 1526, King of the Romans in 1531, and Holy Roman Emperor following the abdication of his older brother Charles V in 1556. While dealing with wars against the Ottoman Empire and conflicts arising from the Reformation, he organized the administrative structures of Austria, Bohemia, and Hungary. Though not particularly prominent as a military commander, he played a crucial role in administration and diplomacy, and was heavily involved in establishing the Peace of Augsburg in 1555.
