Albrecht Altdorfer and the Danube Landscape
Albrecht Altdorfer
A German Renaissance painter, printmaker, architect, and city builder. Along with Wolf Huber and others, he was a key figure of the Danube School, treating natural scenery as a primary subject in the backgrounds of religious and historical paintings, while also creating pure landscape art with virtually no human figures. He is also known for small, intricate prints influenced by Albrecht Dürer. In Regensburg, he served as a city councilor and city architect, engaging in urban building projects and city defense.
