A Polish theologian and Protestant reformer. Active as a Calvinist reformer, he interacted with Erasmus, Zwingli, Melanchthon, and others. In the 1540s, he promoted the Reformation in East Frisia, engaging in church reform centered in Emden from 1543. In England, during the reign of Edward VI, he acted as superintendent of foreign Protestant congregations, becoming superintendent of the Strangers' Church in London in 1550. Driven from England in 1553 following the accession of Mary I, he returned to Poland in 1556, where he worked under Sigismund II Augustus and played a major role in the Polish Calvinist Reformation.
