Albrecht von Haller's Physiology Work
Albrecht von Haller
A Swiss physician, anatomist, physiologist, botanist, natural researcher, poet, and scientific publisher. Considered one of the fathers of modern experimental physiology, he is particularly known for experimentally researching muscle contractility and nerve sensitivity. Having studied under Herman Boerhaave and others, he worked at the University of Göttingen as a professor of anatomy, surgery, medicine, and botany, establishing an anatomical theater, botanical garden, and obstetrical education facilities. Along with systematically researching Swiss flora, he authored works such as "Flora Helvetica" and "Primae lineae physiologiae corporis humani," exerting a major influence on the development of 18th-century European medicine, physiology, and botany. He was also known as a poet and contributed to the development of nature poetry in the German-speaking world through "Die Alpen" (The Alps).
