Wilhelm II
Wilhelm II
The 3rd Emperor of the German Empire and King of Prussia. Ascending to the throne in 1888, he ruled the German Empire until 1918. Shortly after his accession, he forced Otto von Bismarck out of office and strengthened his "personal rule," actively intervening in diplomatic and military policy. He promoted German colonial expansion, naval reinforcement, and World Policy (Weltpolitik), which heightened international tensions with Great Britain, France, Russia, and other nations. During World War I, he led the war effort as the supreme commander of the German Empire, but abdicated due to the German Revolution of 1918 and fled to the Netherlands. In his later years, he lived at Huis Doorn in the Netherlands and passed away in 1941.
