Anton Bruckner and the Monumental Symphony
Anton Bruckner
A leading Austrian Romantic composer, organist, and music educator. Known particularly for his nine symphonies and sacred music, he established a unique symphonic style characterized by monumental scale, rich harmony, strong counterpoint, and expansive movement structures. While heavily influenced by the music of Richard Wagner, he developed a deeply religious and solemn musicality that went on to influence later composers such as Gustav Mahler. His works received mixed evaluations during his lifetime, and he is also well known for extensively revising his compositions multiple times.
