Establishing Modern Experimental Chemistry

Robert Boyle

An Irish-born natural philosopher, chemist, physicist, and inventor. As one of the figures who contributed greatly to the establishment of modern chemistry, he promoted a mechanistic study of nature emphasizing experimentation. Particularly known for Boyle's law, which shows the relationship between the pressure and volume of a gas, he greatly influenced the development of chemistry as an experimental discipline separate from alchemy and traditional natural philosophy through The Sceptical Chymist. He was also one of the representative researchers during the founding era of the Royal Society.
