William Strachey

An English writer, chronicler, and colonial administrator. An important figure who recorded the early history of Jamestown, he is particularly known for personally experiencing the 1609 Sea Venture shipwreck and documenting it in detail. He also served as secretary of the Virginia Colony, leaving behind records on the language and society of the Indigenous Powhatan people.
