Privateer Captain and Jamestown Fleet Commander
Christopher Newport
Drawing on navigation experience honed through military and privateering activities, he took charge of voyages to the North American colony, resupply missions, and negotiations with Indigenous peoples. In 1609, as captain of the Sea Venture and vice-admiral of the Third Supply fleet, he experienced a shipwreck off Bermuda. Afterwards, he joined the East India Company and made voyages toward Southeast Asia and India.
