Thomas Jefferson's Vision
Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson was the draftsman of the Declaration of Independence and one of the most important Founding Fathers who shaped the ideals of the new nation. Rising to prominence as a member of the Virginia House of Burgesses, he authored the Declaration of Independence at the Second Continental Congress in 1776, proclaiming fundamental human rights and popular sovereignty. He also advocated the separation of church and state and the importance of education through the drafting of the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom, and later contributed greatly to expanding the nation's foundation as the third President of the United States.
