Tecumseh's Pan-Indian Alliance

Tecumseh's Pan-Indian Alliance

Tecumseh

A Shawnee military and political leader. He resisted the expansion of the United States into indigenous territories and sought to build a broad confederation by uniting various native tribes across traditional rivalries. Alongside his brother Tenskwatawa, he founded Prophetstown and advocated the concept that indigenous lands belonged to the collective community. During the War of 1812, he allied with the British, playing a crucial role in campaigns such as the Siege of Detroit, but was killed in action at the Battle of the Thames in 1813.
