Planter and politician active in British colonial Virginia. As a member of the prominent Harrison family, he owned vast lands and developed the Berkeley Plantation. From 1736 to 1742, he represented Charles City County in the House of Burgesses, the lower house of the Virginia colonial legislature. His son Benjamin Harrison V became a signer of the U.S. Declaration of Independence, and his grandson William Henry Harrison became the 9th President.
