Pushmataha's Diplomatic Alliance

Pushmataha

A prominent Choctaw military and political leader. From around 1800, he served as chief of the Six Towns district (Okla Hannali) in southern Choctaw territory and was involved in diplomacy and treaty negotiations with the United States. He refused to join the anti-American indigenous confederation promoted by Tecumseh, instead leading the Choctaw to fight on the American side during the War of 1812. He fought against the Red Sticks in the Creek War and also served as a general in the American military. In 1824, he traveled to Washington, D.C. to address Choctaw land issues, where he passed away.
