John Randolph: Royalist Attorney of Colonial Virginia
John Randolph
A lawyer, politician, and Loyalist leader from the Colony of Virginia. He served as the King's Attorney for the Colony of Virginia, as Mayor of Williamsburg, and as a member of the Virginia House of Burgesses. Even as the American crisis for independence deepened, he maintained his loyalty to the British Crown and advocated for reconciliation between the colonies and Great Britain. He left Virginia for Great Britain in 1775 and spent the remainder of his life there. He was also the father of Edmund Randolph, who became the first U.S. Attorney General and second Secretary of State.
