Jean-Philippe Arthur Dubuffet
Jean-Philippe Arthur Dubuffet
Jean Dubuffet is a painter and sculptor representing 20th-century France, known for proposing the concept of "Art Brut" (raw art). Taking a critical stance against traditional art education and standards of beauty authorized by society, he found unique value in creations born outside established art institutions, such as works by children, self-taught individuals, and residents of psychiatric facilities. He produced works using paints mixed with sand or pebbles, rough lines, and simple yet bold forms, and was active in a wide range of fields including painting, sculpture, printmaking, and environmental art.
