Italo Calvino

Italian novelist, short story writer, journalist, and literary editor. He participated in the anti-fascist resistance movement in Italy during World War II and reflected that experience in his early works. In later years, he established a unique style combining fables, fantasy literature, philosophical thought, and experimental narrative structures. His representative works include The Baron in the Trees, The Cloven Viscount, Invisible Cities, and If on a winter's night a traveler. One of the representative writers of Italian literature, he also interacted with the French experimental literature group "Oulipo."
