Vietnam MACV Command, Attrition Warfare, and Army Reform Era

William Childs Westmoreland

A general in the United States Army. He took command as Commander, Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (MACV) from 1964 to 1968 during the Vietnam War, promoting a "war of attrition" strategy and large-scale search-and-destroy operations. He later served as Chief of Staff of the United States Army and was involved in the reform of the Cold War-era US military.
