Marshall Plan Leadership and Western Postwar Recovery Strategy

George Catlett Marshall Jr.

An American military officer, politician, and diplomat. As Chief of Staff of the United States Army during World War II, he led the construction of the Allied military organization, and after the war served successively as Secretary of State and Secretary of Defense. Known as the proponent of the "Marshall Plan" for European recovery assistance, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1953.
