Kichisaburo Nomura

Kichisaburo Nomura was an Admiral in the Imperial Japanese Navy and diplomat who served as Ambassador to the United States prior to the Pacific War. He engaged in grueling negotiations with U.S. Secretary of State Cordell Hull to avert military conflict between the two nations. However, domestic political shifts and Japan's alliance with the Axis powers severely undermined his efforts. Delayed decryption at the embassy caused the final diplomatic notification to be delivered after the Pearl Harbor attack began. Post-war, he served in the House of Councillors and worked to rebuild U.S.-Japan relations.
