Yosuke Matsuoka

Yosuke Matsuoka was a diplomat best known for leading Japan's dramatic walkout from the League of Nations in 1933. As Foreign Minister in the Second Konoe Cabinet, he aggressively pushed for the Tripartite Pact with Germany and Italy to counter Western powers. He also negotiated the Soviet–Japanese Neutrality Pact to execute his "Blitzkrieg Diplomacy." However, his confrontationist stance toward the United States ultimately escalated tensions, paving the way to the Pacific War. Indicted as a Class-A war criminal after the war, he passed away from illness before his trial concluded.
