Serving as the Last Regent Amidst the Final Collapse of the Monarchy
Prince Chun Zaifeng
A royal family member and politician of the late Qing dynasty who held the title of Prince Chun and served as regent from 1908 to 1911. He was a grandson of the Daoguang Emperor and a half-brother of the Guangxu Emperor. When his son Puyi ascended the throne as the Xuantong Emperor, he handled state affairs on behalf of the young emperor. He was involved in military and political reforms of the Qing dynasty, but placed importance on maintaining power centered around the royal family, facing limitations in the transition to constitutional politics and addressing revolutionary movements. When the Qing dynasty collapsed due to the Xinhai Revolution in 1911, he resigned as regent and subsequently stepped away from the front lines of politics. During the Second Sino-Japanese War period, he opposed the establishment of Manchukuo promoted by Japan and is said to have advised his son Puyi not to cooperate.
