Renowned intellectual and critic who shaped postcolonial theory and advocacy

Edward Said

Edward Said was a world-renowned literary scholar, cultural critic, and public intellectual who established postcolonial studies through his seminal work Orientalism. A professor at Columbia University, Said exposed Western cultural biases and distortions regarding the Middle East while passionately advocating for Palestinian self-determination and human rights. As an independent member of the Palestinian National Council, he gave voice to the Palestinian narrative in Western intellectual discourse. Said famously criticized the 1993 Oslo Accords for failing to guarantee fundamental Palestinian sovereignty, continuing his principled advocacy through literature, commentary, and music until his death.
