Ariel Sharon's Command and Political Pivot
Ariel Sharon
Ariel Sharon was a controversial military commander and right-wing political leader in Israel. Known for aggressive battlefield tactics, he gained fame during the 1973 Yom Kippur War and later commanded the 1982 invasion of Lebanon as Defense Minister. As a key leader in the Likud party, he was elected Prime Minister in 2001, adopting hardline security measures during the Second Intifada. In a historic political shift, Sharon orchestrated Israel's unilateral withdrawal from the Gaza Strip in 2005 and founded the centrist Kadima party before a debilitating stroke ended his career in 2006.
