Georg Philipp Telemann: Prolific Icon
Born in Magdeburg in 1681, Georg Philipp Telemann was one of the most prolific and celebrated German composers of the Late Baroque era. Largely self-taught, he served as music director for Hamburg's main churches, outputting thousands of sacred and secular compositions. Blending French, Italian, German, and Slavic folk styles, he was internationally renowned and stood alongside Bach and Handel.
