Michael King Sr.'s Activism

Michael King

Michael King (later Martin Luther King Sr.) was a pastor and social activist from Georgia. As a leader of Ebenezer Baptist Church, he led community solidarity through faith activities. Standing at the forefront of movements demanding equal pay for African American teachers and the right to vote, he laid the foundation for early civil rights activities. He had a profound influence on the thought and leadership image of his son, MLK Jr., and continued to support the anti-discrimination movement from behind the scenes during the Cold War era.
